His other awards include the John H. Jenkins Research Fellowship in Texas History from the Texas State Historical Association (2025) and prizes for his poetry from Spoon River Poetry Review and Descant. He holds degrees in English from Baylor University (BA), The University of Georgia (MA), and Texas A&M University (PhD).
